LAEF is pleased to support LASD's new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) initiative. Parents asked for an enhanced Science program that capitalizes on the innovative spirit of the Silicon Valley, and we are pleased to announce that our school district is laying the groundwork to do just that (and more). Starting in August 2013, each elementary school campus has a designated STEM lab and a full-time teacher who collaborates with classroom teachers to add to the hands-on science curriculum and create additional inter-disciplinary lab-based lessons.
LAEF has promised to raise $3.2 Million for Educational Leadership!
The Los Altos Educational Foundation has committed to raise $3.2 million for K-8 enrichment programs and educational innovation. After many working sessions with educational decision makers starting in January 2013, we took into account all of these factors when deciding the 2013-14 LAEF Programs:
- Parent input from our January survey on current programs and priorities
- District administrators on educational priorities
- Individual program costs and quality
- Distribution of program costs proportionally across all grades K-8
- Our best guess on fundraising for the coming year
